Three Ways to Make Foo Sau Part of Your Day

Each programme can be taken independently or combined. There is no requirement to start with the largest option — many residents begin with one circle or studio session and find their own level from there.

How We Design Each Programme

Every programme at Foo Sau is designed around the same principle: it should be worth attending for its own sake, not because there is nothing better to do. The social groups are kept small enough to form real company. The studio is run by someone who knows the traditions they are teaching. The residence plan is arranged so that daily life runs smoothly without residents needing to manage its details themselves.

The three programmes work independently but also complement each other naturally. A resident on the full Residence Plan has open access to everything. Someone joining just Companion Circles or the Cultural Studio attends on a separate monthly basis and is welcomed into the same spaces and routines.

Small Group Design

Activities are sized for real connection, not mass participation.

Culturally Grounded

Programmes draw from Cantonese traditions with expert-led sessions.

Flexible Monthly Basis

Join or adjust programmes month to month without long commitments.

Consistent Oversight

The same team members are present each week — not rotating staff.

Programme 01

Companion Circles

Small social groups that meet through the week for tea, card games, mahjong and shared stories — helping residents find easy company at their own pace. Hosts hold the room gently, without pushing anyone to join in or perform sociability they do not feel that day.

What the Programme Includes

  • Multiple weekly gathering sessions
  • Mahjong, card games and relaxed conversation over tea
  • Trained hosts who create comfort without obligation
  • Access to common rooms and garden during group hours
  • Consistent group members — same faces each week

Best suited for: residents who primarily want social connection and easy company on their own terms.

Programme 02

Cultural & Recreation Studio

A weekly programme of calligraphy, Cantonese opera listening, gentle music sessions and craft afternoons, run in a light-filled studio where residents choose what suits their mood. The programme is led by a Cultural Lead with formal training in Cantonese artistic traditions, not a general activities facilitator.

What the Programme Includes

  • Weekly calligraphy and ink-brush sessions
  • Cantonese opera listening and discussion circles
  • Seasonal craft afternoons and gentle music appreciation
  • Materials and supplies provided
  • Flexible attendance — join any session that appeals
